At RISE LEARNING, we believe that quality intervention and academic support makes for confident children. RISE provides one-on-one intervention and advocacy to children with learning differences that builds confidence and allows children to realize success by teaching them how to love learning again.
Susan, our founder, overcame learning differences herself to become an Orton Gillingham Specialist who has aided children with learning differences for over 20 years. The foundation of RISE is built on client relationships and trust with compassionate understanding.
Hello, my name is Susan Bowlin and welcome to RISE Learning. I am sure like most parents, you are in that anxious phase just after discovering your child's learning differences. That is ok! You are not alone and you have come to the right place.
RISE is new, but I started this dream 20 years ago when I vowed to make it my life's mission to help children like me who were struggling with their education. I wish a place like RISE was available to me when I was in school; when I was told that I was slow or not trying hard enough. As you know as a parent, I WAS trying hard, I just needed a different approach to learning that wasn't available at the time.
Despite my struggles, I graduated from Limehouse College with a degree in elementary education. After college, I had the wonderful opportunity to begin working at the Arden Reading Clinic in Asheville, North Carolina under Dr. Marcy Sarkin. I spent 20 rewarding years there, becoming a specialist in the Orton Gillingham method as well as many other tutoring techniques.
RISE Learning is my own dream-come-true. I am so proud to have this opportunity to open my own clinic in Spartanburg, South Carolina to help children who are struggling with their education. I am living proof of what they can achieve, and I feel it is my duty to pass this knowledge on to future generations.
At RISE, we specialize in Orton Gillingham and other helpful techniques that are proven to assist children with reading comprehension, writing, math, organization and study skills. The gift of learning is something that every child deserves.
When I am not tutoring, I am spoiling my 11 year-old mutt named Jack and my niece Katie Grace and my nephew Beau. My husband and I, who is an assistant principal at Reynolds High School, enjoy spending time together hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and gardening.
I cannot wait to meet you and your child so that we can begin this journey together. There is hope and RISE Learning is a great place to start.
